Standard (AI-based) vs. Premium (Human-Generated) Transcripts

Standard Transcripts are generated Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, whereas Premium Transcripts are created by people with well-developed skills at simultaneously listening and typing very accurately.

Standard Transcripts are automatically generated upon the ingestion of videos from YouTube and are covered as part of the basic ingestion fee of $1.00/minute.  Standard Transcripts are generated rapidly--typically within about 8-12 minutes for every 10 minutes of video; that is, the turn-around time (from the point of approving ingestion to the point it's available to use in CUBE365) for a Standard transcript of a 20-minute video would typically be between 16-24 minutes.  Because Standard transcripts are generated by machines, they are typically run independently and in parallel, meaning that if a batch of videos is ingested, shorter videos will start to appear faster than longer videos.

Standard transcripts are imperfect but are suitable for creating clips.  Like Premium transcripts, they're automatically indexed, instantly searchable and subject to using Hints (see related article), but their relative quality (in terms of word accuracy--especially proper nouns--punctuation and speaker separation) is lower than Premium transcripts.  Furthermore, the quality range of Standard transcripts is much more variable than that of Premium transcripts, generated by humans.  Among the factors that can affect the quality of Standard, AI-generated transcripts are the:

  • Quality of audio recordings, especially background noise(s)
  • Number of speakers in a video and the extent to which they talk over one another
  • Accent(s) of speaker(s) in a video
  • Amount of unusual terms--jargon--used in a video.

Premium transcripts are virtually always of better quality than AI-generated Standard transcripts--typically over 98% accurate in terms of word accuracy, punctuation, and speaker separation--but they're more expensive and take much longer to generate.  Premium transcripts of videos less than 30-minutes long typically take less than a day to appear in CUBE365 after they're ordered in the application, but much longer videos (e.g., 2-3 hour keynotes or training videos) can take multiple days to turn around.

But because of the differential in quality between Standard and Premium transcripts, certain features in CUBE365 are only unlocked with the latter.  Features that are only available with the completion of a Premium transcript are:

  • The inclusion of a full transcript on the auto-generated ClipPage (for every Clip generated) that can be searched (by web crawlers, like Google, and by people viewing the page).
  • The option to create, download and share ClipFiles (i.e., physical MP4 assets) with 'burned' subtitles.
  • The option to download full transcripts as documents in various formats (Word, Google Doc--to a connected Google account, Text files, and .srt--a subtitle-specific file format).
  • The option to auto-translate full video transcripts and/or Clips generated in English into any of over 100 foreign languages--and the option push auto-generated foreign-language transcripts to YouTube as Closed Captions.
